Project: “A series of activities designed to achieve a specific outcome within a set budget and set timescale” To bring a project to a successful conclusion with all stakeholders satisfied can be a very demanding task requiring considerable technical and interpersonal skills and often great determination in the face of obstacles.
Both directors have substantial experience of project management. As the Estates Director of a further education college, Peter Wilson managed building and telecoms projects up to £375k in value. As a housing consultant, he has managed a number of Neighbourhood Renewal Assessments, a major option appraisal and a number of stock condition surveys (from survey start to completion of report). He has also prepared and reviewed a number of private sector housing strategies for local authorities across the country, often working to testing timescales. He has delivered numerous courses on project management including for the Engineering Employers Federation as well as for public sector clients.
Andrew Lavender is a qualified Prince 2 practitioner. He has project managed a number of key regeneration projects and the outsourcing and auditing of a range of local authority functions, including process mapping of existing service arrangements, re-mapping to streamline and improve efficiency. A major success for Andrew has been his work over the past 10 years spearheading the Kent No Use Empty campaign, embracing all 12 local councils in Kent. Using an innovative partnership approach to project work coupled with advice and encouragement but also fair but firm enforcement, the project has so far seen over 4,100 properties brought back into use since its launch and is regarded as a model of best practice. Andrew was appointed by the Welsh Local Government Association to support the Welsh Government and Local Authorities in implementing the Welsh Empty Property Initiative “House into Homes”.
Lavender & Wilson offer advice, consultancy and training on project management. If you wish, they can offer a direct project management service to deliver a particular project for your organisation.
